Teachers Strip Searched By Police
Teachers at a Secondary School in Antigua are in a fit of rage over the strip search by Police officers last Thursday.
In a release by the Ministry of Education, yesterday said it was deeply troubled over the incident. It says that in collaboration with high ranking officials of the island’s police force, the matter will be investigated swiftly.
The search was conducted on the school premises after a colleague reported that $4,500 was missing from a bag she left in the staff room.
Both male and female educators were stripped searched, being instructed to squat and cough in an effort to retrieve the missing funds.
The money was not recovered and one of the teachers who spoke with OBSERVER media said that the experience was humiliating and felt that their civil decency was violated by the police and the woman who orchestrated the chain of events.
