A NEW CABINET has been sworn-in following general elections in Barbados.
The 30-member cabinet is the largest in CARICOM and one of the largest in the world per-capita.
The swearing in ceremony took place in an open event late Sunday that was attended by Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell and St Vincent’s Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
Earlier in the day, Dominica’s Roosevelt Skerrit and St Lucia’s Allen Chastanet joined the other two regional leaders in lunch with new Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley.
St Kitts and Nevis’ Deputy Prime Minister, Shawn Richards, also attended the ceremonies.
Mottley had earlier said she wanted a large cabinet to ensure greater efficiency.
Senator Jerome Walcott, the general secretary of the ruling party and Motley’s campaign manager, was named Foreign Minister.
Kirk Humphrey, a first timer who defeated Prime Minister Freundel Stewart, was named Minister of Martime Affairs and the Blue Economy.
Former Calyspo Monarch John King os the Minister of Culture and Sports.
Mottley who has taken up the Minister of Finance portfolio said her team will heat the ground running Monday and the new government will move to quickly restore hope.
Mottley also said she will allow the opposition to nominate senators in-spite of not garnering a seat in the House of Assembly.
