Opposition NDP Stands With Unions In St. Vincent
In St. Vincent, leader of the New Democratic Party in St. Vincent, Dr Godwin Friday says that the party will stand with the Unions in their current struggle for acceptable wage increases from government.
A meeting was called between the Unions and Prime Minister Gonsalves last Friday, but only two Unions decided to meet. This is due to the fact that Union representatives were told that their cell phones will not be permitted in the meeting.
The two Unions which attended the meeting were the National Workers Movement and the Commercial Technical and Allied Workers Union.
Elroy Boucher, President of the Public Service Union plans to protest the reading of the budget scheduled for Monday, February 4th . Boucher says that government has evidently closed the door on salary negotiations. The Opposition NDP says it will stand alongside them in solidarity.
