Workers from the now-defunct state-owned oil refinery in Trinidad were left confused on Monday after no one was available to collect their tax return claims for 2017.
On Friday, the company instructed the workers that for their termination payment to be approved and processed, they must show proof that taxes for 2017 were filed and paid.
However as hundreds of workers showed up on Monday, December 3rd, they were barred from going into the compound by Amalgamated security officers.
The workers were informed that no staff was on hand to collect the information/documentation for the processing of their final payment.
The workers are now imploring the powers that be to give clarity to the matter.
