Public Sector Cuts For Barbados
The recent announcement that over 1,500 workers from Barbados’ Public will be sent home is not sitting well with many in the country.
Prime Minister of the country, Mia Motley, says that her personal wish is that no one will be sent home, but unfortunately, it’s necessary as part of the country’s economic plans.
Over 1,500 persons will be made redundant within the next few weeks. One assurance the Prime Minister gave is that those who make to cut to be relieved from duties will receive their severance packages at the same time. She stressed that the redundancies are necessary to keep in line with steps already established in the IMF loan agreement in which the country received close to US$300 million from the IMF.
The Extended Loan Facility was in aid of the country’s economic recovery.
