New Port Facility For Carriacou

The Grenada Port Authority has finally opened its doors to its multi-million dollar port facility in Tyrell Bay, Carriacou.

The facility, with an estimated cost of E.C $3.4 Million, was officially opened yesterday October 4th, after eighteen months of construction work. It will act as the relocation site from Hillsborough.

Mr Carlyle Felix, General Manager of Grenada Port Authority, in outlining the details said that the facility is capable of handling passengers from international and regional ferry services.

Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Hon. Kindra Maturine-Stewart, in her remarks, believes that the new port facility will undoubtedly set the new standard for ports in the Grenadines, It will also allow for increased business on the sister isle.

Dr Mitchell added that plans are also being laid by the Government and a Chinese Company for the expansion of the Lauriston Airport Runway which will accommodate larger airplanes.
