One Year Since Maria
September 20th marked the one year anniversary of Hurricane Maria’s devastating path through the island of Puerto Rico. Over 3,000 people lost their lives and the storm left a whopping $100 billion dollars in damages.
Presently, there are still issues on the island as Puerto Ricans try to rebuild.
Several key infrastructures like clinics and hospitals are still in need of repair. Water supply is still non-existent in certain communities, causing residents to travel many miles for the basic necessity. Authorities are working hard to get the island up and running again with the hope that the response to the disaster, will not be repeated.
President Donald Trump has come under heavy criticism for his administration’s response and adding insult to injury, has recently denied that close to 3,000 people died on the island.
