MOST CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES are expected to resist a US-led attempt to suspend Venezuela for the Organization of American States this week.
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico and Peru are joining Washington in the push to punish the Venezuelan government. Americans are said to be bringing pressure on Caribbean countries to join the move.
It is believed that St Lucia may succumb to that pressure, with Jamaica also a possibility, but most other CARICOM countries are not expected to join the move.
A draft resolution, presented on the first day of the 48th annual meeting of the OAS Monday, called on members not to recognize the results of last month’s Venezuelan election.
US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, again condemned last month’s elections that returned Maduro to power.
